Mark David Stratton, 63, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. He was born October 25, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Paul and Roselyn Stratton.
Mark’s life was built on hard work and filled with laughter, family, and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, horses, fishing, hunting, and spending time with loved ones. A master craftsman and skilled welder, he could tackle anything from sewing to construction. His creativity had no limits, and he loved working with his hands, often alongside family and friends, creating lasting memories in the process. He also loved spending weekends on the boat, where he shared some of his happiest moments with those closest to him.
In January 1983, Mark married Gwen, and together they built a family that became the center of his world. His happiest moments were with his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, and close friends whether it was a family gathering, a day out on the desert shooting, or time together on the water.
Those who knew him best will remember his humor, loyalty, and deep devotion. His grandchildren affectionately gave him the title of “Grumpa” a name that suited his tough exterior but also revealed his kind heart and unwavering love. Through his distinct grit, he loved unconditionally. Whether good or bad, he always supported the choices others made. He was always there to lend a helping hand or guide others through struggles. You could always count on him, no matter what.
Mark made a difference in the lives of many. He taught his children not only how to be tough and fix things, but also the values that defined him: being on time, being strong, obeying the rules, working hard, and keeping promises. A true man of his word, he lived these principles daily and passed them on by example.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Roselyn Stratton; his granddaughter, Cassie Manwaring; his grandson, Tage Bernardo; as well as his animals, Max, Arianna, and Whiskey. He is survived by his brother, Scott “Spud” Stratton; his wife, Gwen Stratton; his children, Jeramy (Tennile) Manwaring, Josh (Heidi) Manwaring, Amber (Brian) Peterson, and Nick (Saesha) Stratton; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mark will be deeply missed. He will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his hardworking hands, his remarkable creativity, and the boundless love he gave to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created and the many lives he touched.
A viewing will be held in his honor at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary, located at 10055 S State Street in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday, September 6th, from 5–7 p.m.
