Markus and Cody Naylor

d. April 1, 2026

In Loving Memory of Markus “Mark” Rolland Naylor and Cody Pahl Naylor:

Cody and his father, Mark, both grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and shared a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing, camping, and time spent in the mountains. Mark and Cody were inseparable and lived together until Cody’s passing, sharing not only a home but a rare and deeply bonded relationship built on family, shared interests, and quiet understanding.

At Mark’s wish, Cody’s celebration of life was to wait until Mark’s own passing, so that father and son could be honored together, sharing one final celebration, just as they shared their lives side by side.

Markus “Mark” Rolland Naylor, age 80, was born April 24, 1945, in Salt Lake City to Dorothy C. Newman Naylor and Rolland T. Naylor, and passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, with his step-daughter by his side. Mark married Cody’s mother, Susan Lily Pahl, on January 30, 1979. Though they later divorced, they remained extremely close friends throughout their lives.

Mark worked many years at his father-in-law’s business, Pahl’s Pawn Shop, where he was adored by his in-laws. He was also a highly skilled carpet layer, known for his craftsmanship and strong work ethic. When his body could no longer handle the physical demands, Mark earned his CDL and became a truck driver, finding peace and comfort in the quiet of the open road. He especially loved hunting with his brother, Craig, and treasured time spent in the mountains.

Mark shared an especially close bond with his stepdaughter, Jessica, who cared for him during his final years with patience, dignity, and respect for his autonomy. He also shared a special bond with his grandson Daxton, who helped care for him with steadiness and grace, never complaining and always there when needed. Mark equally loved the help and humor of Jessica’s husband, Maurice, whose constant joking kept Mark smiling and laughing right to the end.

Mark is survived by his brother, Craig Naylor; his step-daughter, Jessica (Maurice) Fiedel; granddaughters Ariel Wheeler and Andrea (Justin) Rocha; and grandsons Scott, Daxton, and Rylan Fiedel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Annette (Paul) Curtis; his former wife, Susan; and his beloved son, Cody.

Cody Pahl Naylor, age 43, was born August 19, 1979, in Salt Lake City to Susan Lily Pahl Viklund and Markus Rolland Naylor, and passed away October 18, 2022, from COVID. Cody was a self-taught mechanic who loved working on cars and figuring things out on his own. He also worked alongside Mark at a young age, learning the carpet-laying trade, where he developed a strong work ethic and an appreciation for skilled, hands-on labor. He was driven by an entrepreneurial soul, always seeking his own way rather than settling for what was expected. Later, he earned his CDL and enjoyed the independence of the open road. Cody was curious, driven, and hands-on in everything he did.

Cody is survived by his sister, Jessica (Maurice) Fiedel; his uncle, Craig Naylor; nieces Ariel Wheeler and Andrea (Justin) Rocha; nephews Scott, Daxton, and Rylan Fiedel; his loving aunts Joan Bastemeyer, Cathy (Kevin) Fitzpatrick, Cherri (Don) Butters, and Pam (Dale) Ewell; and many cherished cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents Beverly and Gunther Pahl; great-grandmother Nana; aunts Franke (Guy) Kolford and Annette (Paul) Curtis; uncles Gary Pahl and Gordon Kesler; and cousins Jordan Pahl and Mathew Lach.

Together and individually, Mark and Cody will be remembered for their close bond, their hardworking nature, and their deep love of the outdoors. They are dearly missed and forever loved.

Reunited at last, together always.

With grateful hearts, our family thanks Aspire Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care and the genuine compassion they showed Mark and our family.
