Marlene Holt Curtis, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away peacefully at Spring Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 12, 2025.
Marlene was born May 27, 1932 to DeLamar and Afton Hess Holt in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her family moved to Montrose, Colorado early in Marlene’s life so her schooling began in Colorado. In high school she was active in several school clubs, including marching band where she surprisingly played the drums. She was taught from an early age how to work and had several jobs while attending high school. She graduated from Montrose High School and attended Brigham Young University for one semester, and then transferred to Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
After her schooling, Marlene moved back to Salt Lake City and worked as a secretary for several companies. She was also very involved working with the Young Republicans. She was a member of the Utah Golf Association and played golf weekly with her friends and teammates. Marlene also loved to play golf with her husband Paul, nieces, nephews, and friends. She and Paul spent most summers traveling and playing different golf courses around the country. Marlene and several friends also enjoyed weekly Bridge games and bowling matches.
Marlene LOVED fashion, stylish clothes and shoes. She was always dressed and ready for any occasion, complete with matching accessories, when she left her home. Being “presentable” and “put together” was extremely important to her. Her hair was the envy of many.
Marlene was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Paul L. Curtis on September 14, 1963. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 14, 1976. Paul and Marlene served as Temple Ordinance Workers for many years in the Salt Lake Temple. They completed two missions for the Church, one in the Texas, Dallas Mission and the other in the Utah, Salt Lake City Mission where they served as office missionaries.
Marlene is survived by her sisters Janet (Dave) Dungan, Kay Barker, sister-in-law Wilna Holt and her stepson Brent Curtis, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, infant daughter Sherrie Dawn, brother DeLamar “Gov” Holt, brother-in-law Ruel Barker, nieces Vicky Dungan, Kathy Holt, Tamra Sandstrom and grandniece Lindsay Sandstrom.
A special thank you to Tamra and Mike Sandstrom, and Jill and Dave Holt for the love and care they have given to Marlene, especially over the last twenty years.
Thank you also to Spring Gardens caring administration, healthcare workers and staff for the excellent care given to Marlene over the last two and a half years. Her family is also grateful for the tender love and care shown to Marlene from Inspiration Home Health and Hospice nurses and staff over the last few months of her life, as well as the endless dedication of the Morningside Branch Leadership.
A family funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 after which sweet Marlene will be laid to rest at the Memorial Holladay Cemetery.
