Martin Brent Wiens passed away on January 25, 2026 at home, where he wished to be in his final moments. He was born April 24, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Martin and Kathleen Wiens.
Brent spent his childhood and teen years in Sandy, Utah. He was steady and kind, the dependable one, showing his love through actions. As a child, after accidentally breaking a family cuckoo clock, Brent spent months carefully piecing it back together, determined to make things right for his mother. He deeply admired his father, a bond that shaped his sense of loyalty. As a brother, he gave his sisters the full brotherly experience, protective and caring, with just enough teasing and occasional mischief.
Those early years revealed the man he would become.
Brent graduated from Jordan High School in 1966 and entered the Air Force in 1967, where he trained in aircraft electronics and later as an electrician on the F-III aircraft. While stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada, he met the love of his life while working at Woolworth’s in 1968. In fact, he took over her duties of unloading trucks and marking items. Dorothy wasn’t very happy about that and let him know! But that didn’t stop him from winning her over. They were married on April 1, 1970, always joking about the date they got married being April Fool’s Day.
Brent completed his four-year tour of duty in 1971 and welcomed his first daughter, Wendy, that same year. They moved from Las Vegas, Nevada to Aloha Lane in Sandy, Utah. There they also welcomed another daughter, Nikki, in 1973 and a son, Philip, in 1975. Brent was deeply loved and admired by his children.
Based on his experience in the Air Force, Brent decided he’d continue his education and talent in the electrical field, where he eventually obtained his master’s license.
Always being the determined go-getter that he was, he decided to take on the task of building his own home from the ground up in South Jordan. Planning and organizing, and doing as much work as possible on it himself, the house was completed and made into their family home in 1978.
But that wasn’t enough; that same year after moving into their home, Brent decided that it was time to venture out on his own and build something he could truly be proud of. After settling into his new home and bringing a little worry to Dorothy, he set out on his own. Brent’s work ethic and determination never wavered. With the support of his wife, he went on to build a successful business known as Jordan Valley Electric, Inc.
Brent became a grandfather in 1992 and ended up with five grandchildren by 2007, all of whom adored and loved their Papa so much. Eventually, three great-grandchildren entered his life. He really enjoyed the relationships he built with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 2005, Brent was very resistant when Dorothy insisted on getting some dogs, but it didn’t take long for him to fall in love. He truly enjoyed the companionship they brought into his life and was devastated when they passed. Most recently, he chose another dog, Dusty, in 2024, who quickly became a loyal and quirky companion that brought him comfort and joy in his final years.
In 2018, he had the idea that it would be a fun challenge to buy some land and eventually build a cabin. By 2021, the cabin was being built and something beautiful was created where they could host family, relax and enjoy nature.
During his years as a business owner, Brent worked tirelessly and held himself to the highest standards of honesty and quality. He took great pride in his work and in the people he worked alongside, building strong relationships based on trust and respect. His leadership and integrity left a lasting impression on employees, clients, and friends, and he made a profound impact on many along the way.
Because Brent was always on the go, it took him until the end of 2023 to decide that it was time to retire at the age of 75. Unfortunately, a few weeks after official retirement, the family received the horrible diagnosis that Brent had cancer. Never wanting a fuss, he powered through and endured rigorous treatments just to give himself and his family a little extra time. We enjoyed many laughs, special activities, vacations and simple but memorable moments with him, which we are so grateful for and will cherish always.
Brent was incredibly dedicated to everything and everyone he encountered in life. Smart as a whip and stubborn at times, we could always depend on him to know the answer and he would jump at a moment’s notice to help his family and friends. He was quietly loving and observant and when he spoke, his quick wit and gentle humor had a way of bringing laughter when we least expected it. He showed up over and over again without needing credit or words, deeply loyal to the people he cared about.
In his younger years, Brent loved building dune buggies, a passion that eventually turned into a love of classic cars and trucks that he enjoyed owning and restoring. He loved traveling in his motorhome, golfing with his favorite buddies, fixing things, keeping his mind sharp, visiting friends and family, doing yardwork, and working on his pond. He also enjoyed playing cards and never passed up a good dessert.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Florou and the team at Huntsman Cancer Institute for the exceptional care and compassion shown throughout his treatment.
Also a special thanks to Dorothy, who supported him with great love during his final years.
Preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Kathleen Wiens.
Survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; children, Wendy (Shane) Murray, Nikki (Jake) Jarrard, and Philip Wiens; grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler) Boulden, Grey Sorensen, Preston Murray, Angel Wiens, and Emery Taylor; great-grandchildren, Taylin, Astrid, and River; and sisters, Marsha Perelle, Jeri Wiens, and Lori Rivera. Beyond his immediate family, he shared close relationships with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family
A celebration of life will be held on April 24, 2026, which would have been his 78th birthday. The gathering will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at The Azalea, 11277 Kestrel Rise Road in Daybreak, South Jordan.
We hope you can join us as we celebrate his birthday and remember the life of a truly remarkable man!
