Mary Carolyn (Ballenger) Gill passed away on May 27, 2026, in St. George, Utah. She was born on May 6, 1937, in Anniston, Alabama, to William M. Ballenger and Carolyn Virginia Garing Ballenger.
Carolyn welcomed her first child, Benjamin Carlton “Benji” Pope Jr., on November 6, 1957. Benji, who was born with spina bifida, passed away in infancy. Less than a year later, she gave birth to her “miracle baby,” William (Bill) Benjamin Gill, on May 11, 1959, in Anniston, Alabama. Her “special angel,” Mariann Gill, was born on January 8, 1964.
In 1961, Carolyn married Howard Henry Gill in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised their two children, Bill and Mariann, building a home filled with love.
Carolyn worked for the Ogden City School District in various roles before retiring in 1994. After retirement, she and Howard moved to St. George, Utah, where they formed cherished friendships and enjoyed the fellowship of their church community. They loved traveling—especially to Mexico and Hawaii—and spent many happy days camping in Star Valley.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Virginia Ballenger; her husband, Howard; her children, Benji, Bill, and Mariann; her brothers, Wayne Ballenger and Gary Ballenger; and her brother-in-law, Kenneth (Chris).
She is survived by her sister‑in‑law, Martha (Steve); brother-in-law, David (Linda); her grandson, Brandon (Katie); her great‑granddaughter, Vivian; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff, hospice nurses, and residents of Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living in St. George, Utah. Their exceptional care, kindness, and friendship brought comfort and peace to Carolyn and to all who loved her. We will be forever grateful.
