Mary Joyce Emery

The most wonderful, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away June 5, 2008.

Joyce was born May 2, 1931 in Salt Lake City to George and Hazel McLelland. She married Gary Emery December 15, 1949 (later divorced). Together they had seven children. Joyce was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received her endowments in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She served in many callings, including ward primary president. Joyce will be greatly remembered for her cooking without recipes. A pinch of this and a dash of that equaled instant family gatherings. She lived and died for her family and never thought about herself or her own needs. She had a great sense of others needs and would always sacrifice of herself to make them feel better. She is survived by her children Mike (Star) Emery, Dave (Patti) Emery, Rick (Judy) Emery, Kathy (Jeff) Backus, Kerry (Le Ann) Emery, Karen Higgs, Karla Moser, former husband, Gary Emery, also 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two sisters Eva Roberts and Gail Pennington and one brother, Jack McLelland. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George McLelland. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9, 2008 at 11:00am at the Cottonwood Creek Ward, 1250 East Murray-Holladay Road ( 4800 South). Friends may visit with the family Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30am prior to services.
