Mary Jane Burman Percy

Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Mary Jane Burman Percy, 84, of West Jordan, Utah, passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 6th of August, 2023.
Mary was born on the 28th of February 1939 to Wesley and Oneta Burman in Nampa, Idaho. Mary graduated from Marsing High School in 1957 where she loved to play the trumpet and was first chair, an accomplishment she was quite proud of. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in business at the College of Idaho.
Mary met Richard Duane Percy at the College of Idaho while he was obtaining his Provisional Teaching Certificate. Mary and Richard were married on the 6th of July 1961, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They went on to have three boys; Richard, Michael and Cary who had cerebral palsy. Mary was a selfless, dedicated caregiver for Cary for 16 years, until he passed away in March of 1986.
Mary, and her husband Richard loved Square Dancing and throughout their 43 years of participation, they held many positions on both club and state levels including president of Rocketeers Square Dance Club and president of the Associated Square Dance Clubs of Utah. In the spring of 2007, they received the prestigious Walt and Louise Cole award which is the highest award given in the Square Dance community in Utah.
Mary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings, she was a wonderful visiting teacher/minister. She often attended an empty nesters family home evening group and she enjoyed getting together with the ladies from the ward for luncheons and games.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Wesley and Oneta; her siblings Denis, Don, Glen and Arlene; loving husband, Richard; son, Cary; granddaughter, Lindsay; and great-grandson, Sean.
She is survived by her two sons: Richard (Jackie), Michael: former daughter-in-law Jaena (Brent) Gibson, her brother Richard Burman, grandchildren: Brittany (Garret) Peterson, Christopher (JC) Perkins, Justin Perkins, Jeremy Ogden, John (Danielle) Ogden, Jason Ogden. great-grandchildren: Jade, Hyrum, Eliza and Chloe Peterson, Natalie and Amelia Perkins, Addie, Ellie, Em and John Ogden. Everyone who knew her loved her and she will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 10th at the LDS church on 2666 West 7000 South, West Jordan, from 5:00 -8:00 pm. The following day, at the same church, a 1-hour viewing will be held at 9:00 am, followed by the funeral services at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, on 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
