Mary Minaye Imamura

Mary Minaye Imamura passed away on January 21, 2023. She was born on December 10, 1929 to Takataro and Miyoe Shiba in Gilroy, California. She was incarcerated to an internment camp in Poston, Arizona in 1942 and moved to Salt Lake City in 1946. She graduated from West High School in 1947 and attended Stevens-Henager Business College. She married Harry Imamura on January 4, 1952 and had five sons. They were married for 64 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Salt Lake Produce and Construction Realty for over 45 years and retired at the age of 89.
Mary enjoyed attending the Salt Lake Nikkei Center luncheons with her sister Yuri and their close friends. She loved to play golf and bowl. She participated in the Nisei Women’s Bowling League, Beehive Golf Club and was a member of the Alpine Country Club for 48 years and had 3 holes-in-one. Her favorite pastime was watching her boys, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports, the piano, and compete in swimming and cheer competitions. Mary and Harry were their biggest fans. The best of times were with her family on outings in Hawaii, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and California.
Mary is survived by her sons Glenn (Penny), Paul, Wayne (Julia), Jay, Kirk (Lisa); grandsons Nathan (Jessica) Imamura, Eric Baertsch, Trey and Mitchell Imamura; two great grandchildren Carter and Marley Imamura; her sister and best friend Yuri Uyeda; brother-in-law Tad Hideshima and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, brother George Shiba, sisters Helen (Frank) Nakashima, Tomi (Jim) Sujishi, Alyce Hideshima, Sumi (Dick) Takehara; and brother-in-law Ray Uyeda.
A viewing will be held at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 E. 7800 So. (Bengal Blvd.), Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121 on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 at 12:15 pm at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
