Mary Louise Peterson Cromar

Mary passed away quietly in her sleep on May 27 at the age of 90 after a brave battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She was born in March 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joan Bernice and Alfred M. Peterson. She was raised in Ogden, Utah and attended Ogden High School. Her family moved to Salt Lake City her senior year where she graduated from South High School. Later she studied at the University of Utah while raising her 3 children.

She married Earl B. Cromar in 1946 and their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. Mary and Earl had 50 fun filled years together enjoying family and friends and traveling the world.  Earl introduced Mary to travel and it became her passion.  She went to work for Western Airlines to make travel more accessible and for 40 years they enjoyed it to the fullest.  She loved cruising and they went on 38 cruises.

Mary loved being active in community affairs. She was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary where she served as president. She was also in the Council of Women and later in life was active in both the Symphony and Theater Guilds and the Utah Heritage Foundation.
Mary was active in the LDS Church where she held various callings.

She was very creative and loved sewing and decorating and made many of her and her children's clothes. Mary was stylish and loved bright colors.  She loved nature and beauty and filled her house and yard with flowers. She was an excellent and creative cook and instilled a love of food in her children. She loved to snow ski, water ski (she was still water skiing when she was 75), and prove that she could do just about anything.  And she had a wicked sense of humor.

Mary is survived by her brother, Gary (Marilyn) Peterson; 3 children, Michael, Christine (Glenn) Ray, and Terry (Rose) Cromar; 5 grandchildren, Amie (Bryan) Larsen, Richard (Magali) Cromar, David (Mandi) Cromar, Martha Cromar and Matthew (Jennifer) Cromar; and 11 great-grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her father and mother, her sister, Shirley Brito; and her brother, Mickey (Alfred Jr.) Peterson.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:00am at the Wilford Stake Center at 1765 E. 3080 S.  Salt Lake City, Utah, where friends may visit 9:30 - 10:30 prior to services.  We invite attendees to wear cheerful colors in Mary's honor.  Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn.
