Our loving mother, grandmother, Mary Ann Shanks Egbert passed away October 18, 2013 in Holladay, Utah of natural causes.
Mary Ann was born October 27, 1933 in Ft. Riley, Kansas to Earl Clyde Shanks and Tressie Agnes Lemmons. Mary Ann often spoke of her many fond memories growing up with her family and friends. She maintained contact with many of her childhood friends over the years. Mary Ann was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her life. She was baptized on the day preceding the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
While a Jr. High student in Logan, Utah, Mary Ann met Archie Osborne Egbert and their relationship quickly blossomed in succeeding months and years. Arch and Mary Ann married in the Logan, Utah Temple on November 25, 1953 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003. Arch passed away December 17, 2009. His passing created a significant void in Mary Ann's life. She looked forward to her reunification with Arch with great anticipation.
Mary Ann spent 10 years working closely alongside Arch while he presided over the Chile Vina del Mar Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Bogata, Columbia Mission Training Center and as he fulfilled assignments in Spain and Chile as a Church Education System administrator.
Throughout the years, Mary Ann served in many various callings within the Church and especially loved teaching gospel principles as a teacher in the Relief Society organization. She enjoyed taking homemade treats to her many friends, young and old, and loved spending time with each of them.
Mary Ann devoted her life to service to her family, friends and neighbors. She treasured her relationships with family members and loved singing and playing games.
