Mary Wilde, age 68, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026.
She was the daughter of George (Pat) and Betty Wilde, born on Christmas Day in 1957, the youngest of four children.
Mary was a good student and involved in many different groups throughout her childhood. She especially loved participating in choir and musicals during her time at South High School.
Mary attended the University of Utah and after marriage, the birth of her daughter, and subsequent divorce, she ultimately graduated with a degree in accounting. She worked at the JCPenney accounting center in downtown Salt Lake for most of her career.
Mary raised her daughter Shannon in Millcreek, next door to her sister, mother, and aunt. They all took care of each other along with the rest of their family. Mary was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various ward and stake callings.
Music was always a large part of her life. She enjoyed singing and performing with her sisters and her daughter, in addition to accompanying many others on the piano. She was always ready to serve and help her neighbors, friends, and family.
As her health deteriorated in her later years, she continued to bless everyone around her with kind words, a ready smile, and a peaceful spirit. She bore her trials and burdens cheerfully and with patience. We are grateful she is now free of pain and the limitations of her mortal body.
She is survived by her cherished daughter Shannon Hughey; her sister Ann (Dan) Hymas; and seven loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jan; her parents; and her brother, Steven.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Meadow Peak Rehabilitation. Their kind and loving care made Mary’s last years easier.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00am at the Grant Stake Center, 3153 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A closed casket visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30am to 10:45am. Interment will follow the services at the Preston Cemetery in Preston, Idaho. Flowers made Mary sneeze, so in lieu of flowers, she would ask us to go visit a friend or send them a note and remind them they are loved.
