Maryanne Sorensen Anderson

January 30, 1932 — May 17, 2023

There is no role in life more essential and more eternal than that of motherhood.
M. Russell Ballard
Our beloved mother, MaryAnne Sorensen Anderson, age 91, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Mom was born on January 30, 1932 in Richfield, Utah to Elva Clark and Wallace Sorensen.
Mom loved her years in Richfield surrounded by loving family and friends. After graduating from BYU with a Business Degree, Mom moved to Salt Lake City where she met Ken, an amazing returned missionary.
She married her eternal companion, Kenneth Robert Anderson, on March 15, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five children and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
MaryAnne was the ultimate hostess, opening her home to family, friends, missionaries, ward family and anyone who entered her home. Even though Mom never learned to swim, she happily spent her summers at Lake Powell, Bear Lake, Pine View and any lake close by with her family. She was beautiful, poised and always elegant, even while boating.
In addition, mom and dad had a wonderful social life with friends. They went to University of Utah sporting events, symphonies, plays, study groups and temple groups. MaryAnne also loved belonging to the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers. Mom was friends to all.  She and dad loved to travel, especially to Hawaii where dad served his mission.
She was a natural born leader who lived a life full of service to her family, anyone in need, as well as in multiple capacities at the ward and stake levels. Mom had a firm and strong testimony of the Lord, Jesus Christ. She served as a missionary at Temple Square and cherished those memories. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
MaryAnne was preceded in death by her adoring husband Kenneth Anderson, parents Elva and Wallace Sorensen, siblings Samuel Sorensen, Margaret (Phil) Peterson and Julia (Don) Ashworth; grandson, Josh Goodman and two great grandchildren, Thor Thompson and Maely Anderson.
MaryAnne is survived by her five children Shari (Don) Alger, Mike (Sherry) Anderson, Julie (Thane) Baggaley, Steve (Tami) Anderson and Kristen (Ira) Baker.
