Maryellen Sjoblom Antczak

January 31, 1934 — December 31, 2023

Cottonwood Heights, Utah

Maryellen Sjoblom Antczak of Cottonwood Heights, Utah passed away peacefully on New Year's Eve Day at Intermountain Medical Center. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday January 31st.  Born in Draper, Utah to Oscar Frank Sjoblom and Thalia Fitzgerald in 1934, she spent her childhood years in Draper on the family farm. Her father and his brother farmed the Plain View Farm that was settled by her grandparents who migrated to the U.S. from Sweden.

Her mother a school teacher, was the granddaughter of the original Mormon pioneers who founded and settled Brownville in 1848.  Brownville is now known as Draper. In her own words, "the strength of her ancestors and positive attitude helped me to manage life's problems and not become defeated." Life on the farm was hard work, but she enjoyed time playing with her dog Penny, so named because she saved a penny a week to buy her dog for 25 cents and riding her horse Lucky, who was won by her father in a raffle at the 24th of July celebration.

Throughout her school career she received many awards and was involved in student council, modeling, cheerleading, piano, dancing, violin, art, journalism and speech. After graduation from Jordan High School in 1952, she married her high school sweetheart Donald J. Antczak, of Butlerville (Cottonwood Heights), Utah 10 June 1952 in the Salt Lake Latter-day Saint Temple. Shortly after getting married, Maryellen and Don moved to southern Idaho where they made lifelong friends, and moved back to Midvale, Utah a few years later. In August of 1959 they moved into their home on 7000 South (Fort Union Blvd). Her life was centered around service to her children, husband as well as church and communities. She enjoyed working with the children, youth and women’s associations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As well as the Sugar House Jaycees, Holiday Children's Center, and the Utah Training School in American Fork.

Maryellen worked as a Medical Assistant, School Secretary, Legal Secretary, and an AR Specialist at Intermountain Health Care until she retired in 1999.  After retirement she enjoyed traveling with family and friends.  Her favorite trip was to the Final Four in Texas where the University of Utah were in the finals.
