Max Joyce Rasmussen

April 22, 1931 — May 18, 2023

Max Joyce Rasmussen – April 22, 1931 ~ May 18, 2023
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend was born in Rigby, Idaho to Daniel and Lois Madsen, April 22, 1931.
She met her true love, Carl Rasmussen on a blind date and they were married in October of 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married 73 years before Carl passed away in January of 2022. They had five children, Tawnya (Keoni) Kaimimoku, John (Janet) Rasmussen, David Rasmussen, Terry (Penny) Rasmussen, Karen (Randy) Whipple.
Family was the most important thing to Joyce. She made sure to have numerous family get-togethers and yearly family reunions. Joyce loved her family and was happiest when she was with them. If you came over for a visit, she was sure that it needed to include an ice-cream outing. She loved being around people and was always teasing and joking. When asked how she was her answer was always, “mean and ornery”, said with a smile.
Joyce loved to travel and went on many trips all over the world with family. On their 50th wedding aniversary, Joyce and Carl went to Jeruselam.
Some of her favorite hobbies were quilting, crocheting, and painting. She made sure each of her children and grandchildren had an original quilt.
She had various careers as a florist, a cake decorator, she ran her own daycare, worked for the LDS Church putting gold leafing on the Angel Moroni statues that went on top of the temples.
Joyce was dedicated to the service of others. She loved helping others. Joyce was not shy in the least and would always start up a conversation with whomever was sitting next to her including strangers on a 12 hour flight. She loved the church and loved sharing her testimony. Together she and Carl served the people of Guatemala 1989-1991 on an LDS mission.
Joyce could always be found reading, studying, and learning. It didn’t matter if it was school books, the scriptures, church books, or what. Learning was very important to her.
Preceded in death by her sweetheart Carl Rasmussen, daughter Karen Whipple, grandson Tyler Rasmussen, siblings Ada Gean Giles, Margie Dae Stanger, and Nile Madsen.
Survived by her children Tawnya, John, David, Terry, 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
A special thank you to Sela Hall for her loving service of daily in home care. Taking care of Joyce’s every need sometimes day and night for six months and helping her transition into a memory care home. It took a staff of many to replace you. You became her best friend. A special thank you to the staff off Legacy Taylorsville Memory Care Village as they cared for Joyce with great love and compassion this last year. All of these loving dedicated people became extended family to us and to Joyce.
