Max Bridges Miller

Max B. Miller age 97, a long-term resident of Park City, Utah and part-time resident of Ft. Mohave, Az. Died on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Max was a son of Hazen L. and Hazel Bridges Miller born in Wabash Co., Indiana May 28, 1919, raised in Lagro, Indiana and graduated from Lagro H.S. in 1937. Later, in 1950, he graduated from Tri- State College at Angola -earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Soon after getting the Engineering degree, was recalled into the U.S. Air Force at the start of the Korean War as a Captain serving as Commanding Officer of a C-119 Mobile Training Detachment. Prior to College he served 7 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Army Air Force during, before, and after WWII, from 1940 to 1947. He graduated from pilot training in July, 1942 as a S/Sgt. Pilot. Then he received training to fly the DC-3. In January, 1943 he was privileged to fly his assigned "gooney bird" named "The Hoosier Traveler" to New Guinea; at that time the new rank of "Flight Officer" was awarded to all S/Sgt. Pilots. Two years were spent flying the South Pacific during which he accrued 115 combat missions, awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster and other campaign and occupation medals. He received a 1st Lt. promotion after returning from the South Pacific, Dec., 1944.

He married Dorothy Harris of Louisville, KY in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 28, 1944. Dorothy died in Aug., 1974. After the second tour of duty he joined the Engineering Dept. with Ford Motor Co. working ll years in Louisville, KY and 19 years in Salt Lake City, UT., retiring in 1982. From 1964 until 1976 he lived in Bountiful, UT. Then he moved to a ranch in Wasatch Co., presently covered by the Jordanelle Reservoir. At that time (1989) he moved to Park City, Ut. After retirement his enjoyments revolved around the ranch, fixing, travel, golf, military and school reunions, mushroom hunting and bridge.  He was a member of the Park City Community Church and the Park City Mountain Sports Club. Max is survived by children Michael (Seattle), Steven (Park City), Susan Mantle (pre-deceased) and Sandra Biggs (Colorado), 4 grand-children, 5 great grand-children, one brother (pre-deceased) and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held at the Park City Community Church 4501 N. Hwy. 224, Park City, UT on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. A family and friends visitation and gathering will be held on Friday morning December 16, 2016 from 9:00am to 10:00am at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, with a graveside service and Military Honor Guard service at 10:30am at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
