Maxine Carol Nielsen MacDuff Placek, loving and beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandma and Great-Grandma, passed peacefully from this life on December 20, 2010, in the comfort of her home. Born December 9th, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Grandma lived and loved life to the fullest.
She enjoyed hiking in her younger years, painting with her husband John (who passed away in 1991), attending the symphony with her husband Paul (who passed away earlier this year), and shopping at Macy's- way too often, according to her son Malcolm. We know the sales associates at Macy's will miss her too. Sorry Grandma, we just had to say it!
Grandma loved classical music, The Beach Boys and George Clooney. She was our shining star, our "one in a billion," and we will miss her laugh, smile, and our Sunday dinners. We take comfort knowing Grandma has joined family members that have gone before us. If you met Grandma, you loved her, and she loved you in return, unconditionally. Grandma, thank you for always telling us how proud you were of all of us.
Grandma was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara, brother Larry, husband John, husband Paul and many others. She is survived by her brother Lewis T. Nielsen, son Malcolm, "daughter" Laurie, "granddaughter" Barbara (Brad), grandsons Trevor (Jennifer), Cody, and Stewart, granddaughters Lindsay (Alexis), Rachel (Scott), and Amelia (Danny), great-granddaughters Katelyn and Hannah and one due in April, great-grandsons Aidan and Collin, and many other wonderful individuals she loved dearly.
Grandma, if everyone could be a tenth of the amazing person you were, this world would be a much better and kinder place. We love you always and will make you proud!
