Maza Christensen Ross

June 28, 1915 — June 8, 2010

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother quietly returned home to her Heavenly Father on June 8, 2010 after a short illness.

She was born in Richfield, Utah on June 28, 1915 to C.P. Christensen and Alice Ogden Christensen.

After graduating from BYU in Speech and Drama she married her childhood sweetheart, J. Richard Ross, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Rich and Maza moved to Holladay in 1946 where they raised their six children in what was then a rural suburb of fruit orchards and gardens. They were married for 35 years before Rich passed away in 1973. Maza moved to the East Millcreek area in 1984 where she found love and acceptance. She lived independently until she passed away.

She was an accomplished seamstress, a very competent and contented homemaker, a meticulous gardener, a mother extraordinaire, and a tremendous support to the annual family camp for the past twenty-three years.

Maza maintained a very gentle spirit throughout her life and the in-laws knew her love and acceptance of them was unconditional.

In addition to numerous church callings she served as a volunteer English teacher to immigrants at the LDS Humanitarian Center until the age of 88. She was a loving visiting teacher until shortly before her passing.

Maza was preceded in death by her husband Richard and her brothers Ellis and Wane.

She is survived by six children, Christy (Howard) Romero, Kathy (Frank) Spilker, Richard (Laurel) Ross, Margaret (Bryce) Berry, John (Carolyn) Ross, Mark (Sue) Ross and by 27 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday evening, June 11, 2010 at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, between 7:00 and 8:30pm. Funeral services will be held at the Valley View 12th Ward at 2125 Evergreen Avenue (3435 S) on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 1:00pm with a viewing prior to the service between 12:00a
