Melvin Raymond Kueffner

Melvin Raymond Kueffner, 82, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Mel is survived by his wife, Claudia, son Lance (Cindy), daughter Holly sisters Edith, Virginia, Viola (Doug), Norma, Mary Ann and Eileen, brother in laws Dick (Bethanne), Dan (Monica), and Bill (Cathy), his five grandchildren, Justine (James), Courtney, Trista (Jordan), Josh and Brendan, his three great grandchildren Declan, LaShawn and Reighne and multiple nieces and nephews.
Mel is preceded in death by, and will be reunited with, his daughters Nadia and Cristy, his parents Fred Kueffner and Marie Kohoutek, brothers, Fred (Evelyn) and Ralph, sisters Esther (Don) and Helen, brother in laws, Helmut, John, Thomas and Tony, sister in laws Darlene (Marion) and Marsha, mother-in-law Helen Shipley and father in law William Shipley.
Melvin was born December 29, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest boy in his family. As a child he enjoyed math, chemistry and physics and excelled at baseball. He would spend his time swimming down at the Jordan River with his friends. He graduated from West High School in 1959 and then went on to join the Navy. There he served as a Gunner, Radar, and a Helmsman until he was honorably discharged in 1961. In 1964 he married the love of his life Claudia whom he was married to for 59 years. He worked diligently as a carpenter and craftsman for various companies across the Salt Lake Valley for over 40 years.
Mel always had a passion for cars and in his free time he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, reading, swimming, watching the Indianapolis 500, golf and horse races and above all spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the staff at IHC in the ICU, the staff at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery as well as the staff at the Veterans Office for all of their assistance during this time.
Funeral and Viewing Information:
A viewing will be held Monday April 24th from 11am-Noon.
