Melvin “Kim” Shurtliff, age 71, passed away at home on July 25, 2025 in West Valley City, Utah. He was born on December 28, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Melvin Wayne Shurtliff and Alberta Hardy Shurtliff.
Kim is survived by his brother, Charles Wayne Shurtliff and sister Pamela Shurtliff. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Sir.
71 years of age, but life is just one moment, one moment with a story. Kim had a good story to tell. His life was filled with family. A very close one at that. He made it his purpose to take care of everyone’s needs, especially his twin sister Pam. He loved all his nieces and nephews and enjoyed being with them. It’s the little things like laughing so hard while playing cards that they will hold dear in their memories, and his heartfelt long hugs that will last forever. The list could go on and on.
He was always devoted to his dogs. They were his heart and soul. They were such a big part of his story. He worked hard in construction for his career and for many years worked with his brother Chuck.
So many chapters to tell, but only coming now from our memories. We are the ones now reliving his moment. If we could guess what he is doing now, it would probably be taking a long drive with his sisters Bonnie, Karen and Kris by his side. If we could only hear them talk about their one moment, their one moment with a story!
Kim’s wish for all of us, especially his twin sister Pam, would be to make the most of your one moment, your one moment with a story.
Kim was preceded in death by both parents, sisters, Bonnie Sue Thompson, Karen Rae Love and Kristine Jenson.
A Celebration of Life is to be held at his home on 5057 Festival Drive, West Valley City, Utah on August 23, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
