Meredith Austin Martinez, 71, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully Thursday, January 17, 2013. She was born September 27, 1941 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to John Wallace and Ruth Passey Austin.
Her early years, which she always described as the most idyllic childhood imaginable, were spent on the farm so dear to her heart. After graduating from Magrath High School, she attended Brigham Young University where she earned a degree in Political Science.
She was sealed for time and all eternity to Benjamin Isaiah Martinez in the Cardston Alberta Temple on September 19, 1963. Through her devotion to her family she taught us the meaning of unconditional love and selfless service. She supported her children and grandchildren at every school program, soccer game, piano and dance recital possible, prepared legendary Sunday dinners, was always ready with a hug or a listening ear, was always good for a story or a game, and taught us the gospel at every opportunity.
Meredith was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving diligently in numerous capacities. She served as companion to her husband as he presided over the Mexico Merida Mission from 1978-1981, and as matron of the Guatemala City Temple from 2006-2009 while Ben served as president. Wherever she served she did so with all of her heart and soul. Her influence for good is beyond measure.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bill. She is survived by her beloved husband, Benjamin, and their five children, Ben (Dana), John (Laurie), Shonna (Michael) Linford, Daniel (Ileana), and Samuel (Annjeanette), and 23 precious grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John (Jane) Austin, and numerous other family members.
