Meriel Norma Kendall Howard

Meriel Norma Kendall Howard, a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, peacefully passed away at her home in SLC on November 17th 2023, at 94 years of age. She leaves behind a legacy of love and family.

Born on July 21st, 1929, in Fryeburg, Maine, to Norman and Mildred Kendall, the oldest of six children. She is survived by her devoted children, Daniel (Sue), Terry (Cindy), Mayvonne (David Wetzel), David, Brian (Brenda), Annette Howard, 27 Grandchildren, 64 Great-Grandchildren, and her younger brother, Bob Kendall (Darlene & Gloria-deceased). Meriel was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Tom Howard and siblings Wenona (Don Millgate), John (Ruth), Roy (Arlene & Gayla-deceased), and Joycelyn (Carl Hagberg).

After graduating from high school at the Fryeburg Academy, Meriel boarded a bus bound for Utah where she could be among the Saints in Zion, a deep yearning she held close to her heart. Thereafter, successfully completing beauty school, she accepted the call to serve in the New England States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was there she met and later married in the Salt Lake Temple, Elder Tom Howard, a fellow missionary. They were blessed with a loving family of 6 children.

Meriel's caring nature found expression through her work as an Avon Lady and at Beneficial International promoting health products and services, fostering her commitment to a healthier lifestyle that no doubt added to her longevity and quality of life. Her love for family and friends accelerated her fervent pursuit of family history and staying connected through greeting cards by embracing new technologies after the age of 70.

Meriel will be remembered for her steadfast faith, unwavering love for her family and friends, and the impact she had on those around her. Her legacy will endure through the generations she nurtured and the faith she exemplified.
