Obituary for Meron Michelle Capel, age 37. Died on January 13, 2023 in Salt Lake City, UT.
She was born on April 2, 1985 in Somalia, Africa and was later adopted at age 12 by Michael and Lindy
Capel of Arizona in 1997. The family later moved to Colorado and Meron graduated from Job Corps in
Ogden, UT in 2004.
Meron loved and was skilled at cooking, especially Ethiopian food. She enjoyed fashion, music, and
reading, but most of all she loved her son Zion and spending time caring for him.
She is survived by her son Zion Oku and his father Jimmy Oku of Salt Lake City; her parents Michael
and Lindy Capel of Kansas; siblings Corey (Brittnie) Capel, Curt Capel, Christopher (Lindsey) Capel,
Leanna (Mike) Barker, Lacey Capel, Lora (Ted) Unruh, Lisabeth (Dave) Kennedy, Lamory (Jeanette)
Capel, Natalie Capel, Cosette Capel, Anna Capel, and Benyam Capel, and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brother Connor Capel.
Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens in Millcreek, UT.
