Merrill Reed Holman passed away peacefully on October 25, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born May 13, 1930 in Fountain Green, Utah to Elmer & Zelda Jacobson Holman. He married his Farmer's Daughter, Viola Reich, on February 23, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Merrill graduated from Moroni High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years. He was a passionate outdoorsman that enjoyed sharing his love of the desert and mountains with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed deer hunting, riding motorcycles, camping and fishing. He was a top-class Scout Master that led many young men to attain their Eagle Scout award.

Merrill was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who taught his family the importance of hard work, having fun, and enjoying the little things in life.

Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Athaleen, three brothers: LaVier, LaDrue and Elvon; and a great-grandson, Logan Emery. He is survived by his sister Jean Holman Bowles, children Marvin (Kristine) Holman, Bruce (Susan) Holman, Margie (David) Arnovitz, Steven Holman, Susan (Mike) Simpson, 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosecrest 1st Ward, 3101 S. 2300 E., Salt Lake City. Friends and family can visit Tuesday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., Salt Lake City, and also Wednesday morning at the church 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers please make a donation, in Merrill's name, to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
