Michael Phil Nielsen Sr., age 76, passed away on April 14, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on November 15, 1949, in Ogden, Weber County, Utah, to Wallace and Lura Nielsen.
Michael lived a full and hardworking life, known especially for his dedication as a safe and dependable truck driver—a role he took great pride in throughout his career. Outside of work, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved working on crossword puzzles, playing pool, and watching classic Western movies. Though he often claimed to dislike playing the piano, those who knew him best admired how well he could play.
A devoted fan of the Chicago Bears, Michael rarely missed a chance to cheer on his team. He will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet humor, and strong work ethic.
Michael is survived by his three children: Michael Nielsen Jr. (Liz), Cherie Crowder (Kim), and Chris Nielsen (Terri), his 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Lura Nielsen, and his beloved wife, Deborah Nielsen.
Funeral services will be held on April 24, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Memorial Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
