Michael Leslie Pierce

Our loving husband, father, son, and friend Michael Leslie Pierce passed away in the early morning hours of January 6, 2014 from complications of Parkinson's Plus. The past two years have been difficult as Michael dealt with the debilitating effects of his illness. He stayed cheerful, happy and upbeat throughout even though he lost the ability to do most of the things he loved.

Born October 3, 1961 in Charleston, West Virginia to Ronald and L. Rae Davis Pierce. Michael earned a BS in Chemistry at the University of Maryland and a PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Utah. He was a lifelong Maryland Basketball, Washington Redskins and Washington Capitals fan. He worked at various biotech companies before ending his career at ARUP.

On July 1, 1995 Michael married Jeanne Yonk on a beautiful day in Red Butte Garden. They had many adventures together before embarking on their biggest joint venture-parenthood adding Katie (10) and Henry (7) to their family.

Michael loved fly fishing, fly tying, hiking, skiing, climbing mountains and being in the great outdoors. He loved playing with his children. He enjoyed watching his children play soccer or perform for him.

Michael is survived by his wife Jeanne, children Katie and Henry, mother L. Rae Pierce, stepmom JoAnn Pierce, in-laws Richard and Nancy Yonk, brother Ron (Cathy), sister Linda (Mike) and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father Ronald Pierce.

Memorial service honoring Michael's life will be held at 11:00am on Monday January 13, 2014 at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may visit with the family from 9:30am to 10:45am prior to services.
