Miriam Hummel passed away peacefully June 12, 2011 in Holladay, Utah. She was born in Bittinger, Maryland to Dennis and Harriett Virginia Beachy Detrick. She was the last of 13 children: Verna, Elmer, Webster, Arthur, Delbert, Clayford, Raymond, Ralph, Harley, Leona, Ruth, Grace, and Miriam. All have predeceased her as well as her first child David.
She graduated in 1941 from Grantsville High School, Grantsville, Md.; and Cathermans Business College, Cumberland, Md. in 1942. She was secretary to the Montgomery Ward store manager in Cumberland until her marriage to Garland Hummel in February 21, 1943. They moved to Baltimore, Md. where they both were employed at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Middle River, Md., until her husband's entry in the U.S. Army. She returned to Cumberland as secretary to a manager of Advertisement at Kelly Springfield.
