Modesto Tapia Figueroa, age 80, was born in Chilpancingo, Guerrero Mexico on October 31, 1945, to Bernabe Alvarez Tapia and Josefa Aguilar Figueroa. Modesto passed away in Salt Lake City on May 8, 2026.
Modesto married the love of his life, Gloria Ramirez Tapia, on March 11, 1983. Together they had two children, Linda Tapia (Rogelio Barranco) and Modesto Tapia Jr.
He is survived by his wife, his two children, and six grandchildren: Steve Trujillo (Victoria Urcino), Dominique Trujillo (Brianna Gallegos), Daniel Sosa, Derrick Sosa, Modesto Adan Tapia, also known as “Moso,” and Elisabeth Tapia. Modesto is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Geo, Ayanna, Gianni, Thalia, Dominic, Steve, Gabriela, Angel Gianni, Luciano, Tru, Eliana, and Elias.
Modesto will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His generosity, kindness, and dedication to others will never be forgotten. He was a successful business owner and firefighter who loved fishing and outdoor activities. He enjoyed basketball and was a devoted fan of the Utah Jazz. Modesto was loyal to his employees and co-workers, cherished time with his family, and was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren.
Modesto was welcomed into heaven by his mother and father; his father in law, Juan R Tinoco; his brother, Raul Alvarez; his sister, Sofia Tapia; and his nephew, Bernabe Alvarez Tapia.
Viewing services will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Funeral Mass services will begin at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at Memorial Redwood.
