Myrna Hansen

April 4, 1937 — June 3, 2024

Taylorsville

Myrna Elaine Hansen, born April 4th, 1937 passed peacefully June 3rd, 2024 at age 87 surrounded by her loving children and family. She was not afraid for this day to come and often joked about pneumonia being "an old person's best friend”. This “best friend” took our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Myrna will be fondly remembered for her passions and talents that enriched the lives of those around her. She was a creative soul through and through. Myrna was a very accomplished artist. It was common to see her painting a beautiful painting to give to someone she loved or playing her favorite hymns on the piano. She also had a profound love for gardening and was quick to share her canning skills every Fall. Her skillful hands were not limited to the canvas and soil; she was also an exceptional seamstress. She adorned many women of all ages, including great grandbabies with the most beautiful dresses to wear for their special days.

Deeply devoted to her faith, Myrna found solace and purpose in serving the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints. During her younger years, she worked in the Real Estate department for the Church. As she got older,  she brightened her church congregation with her music as the dedicated organist. She also freely gave of her time to serve many years as an Ordinance worker in the Jordan River temple. Music was a constant source of joy in Myrna’s life. Whether she was humming along to a familiar tune or putting her beautiful hands to the piano keys, her passion for music will be forever passed down through all her posterity.

In her downtime, you could often find her lost in the pages of a good book or the scriptures. But perhaps Myrna’s most enduring legacy lies in her unwavering support and boundless love for her family and friends. Quick-witted and compassionate, she had a knack for uplifting others, always ready with a kind deed or a clever remark to brighten someone's day. Her pride in her family knew no bounds, and their happiness brought her immeasurable joy. Her family was her world and her home was the safe gathering place for so many memories. Her doors were always open to family and friends, where they were welcomed with open arms and treated to her delicious homemade meals. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her loved ones, who meant everything to her.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Phil and Valerie Hansen, David and Kay Hansen, Colette and Kelly Farr, Linda and Ed Askew, Chris Grable, 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Eileen.

Myrna was preceded in death by her cherished husband Richard Ray Hansen. They were sealed on June 1st, 1956 in the Manti temple.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter Robyn Grable, 5 beloved grandchildren, her brothers Paul and Duane, and sister-in-law Patsy.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 in the church building located at 5775 South 2700 West in Taylorsville from 6 PM to 8 PM.  A funeral service will be held later to accommodate family and friends on Monday, June 24th at the Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Bengal Blvd, in Cottonwood Heights at 11:00am.

A special thanks to her dear friend, Joycelyn for her love and care and all the nurses at Jordan Valley hospital and nurse Rachel at Quality Hospice for providing such loving care during Myrna’s last days. Though she may be gone, the memories of her laughter, her art, and her unwavering faith and love will continue to bring comfort and warmth to those who were lucky enough to have her in their lives.
