Nancy Mattingly

July 30, 1949 — August 14, 2023

On August 14, 2023, Nancy Mattingly 74 passed away at home surrounded by her family. She fought a hard fight with kidney failure as well as heart failure. She was born on July, 30, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Betty Fletcher & Lawrence Virginia. She was like a mother to all her siblings and helped raise them all. She graduated from Granite High School in 1967. She married in 1970 and had two children, Sherice and Joe, then later divorced and met the love of her life Thomas Mattingly. They were married on April 18, 1980. In April 1981 they had one child together, Misty. On July 18, 1984, they were all sealed together forever in the Salt Lake L.D.S temple. Nancy had such a strong testimony of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the gospel.
Nancy loved people, especially children. She worked in a couple of different fields in her life. She was a constable for Salt Lake County, serving process as well as taking people to jail, children to safe places, and protecting women. After battling cancer and winning she opened her own daycare and took care of many children. She loved to watch the children laugh, grow and learn. They would tell you she had the yummiest snacks like ding dongs, Twinkies, popsicles, and candy. After that she went back to school to get her license to be a certified nursing assistant. She did home health for many years until 2009 when she was hurt at her job. She had such strong relationships with her patients and their families. It didn’t matter how late they would keep her she didn’t care she would stay until they were taken care of and had what they needed. After that she was forced to medically retire.
Nancy loved having her grandkids, family, and friends around, visiting and having meals together. She loved taking rides in the canyon and having a picnic. She enjoyed playing the card game Jinn. Nancy loved to go the movies and have buttery popcorn as well as shows at the desert star.
Nancy was the most loving compassionate person you’d ever meet. She helped everyone she knew and anyone she saw in need. Even those she didn’t know whether giving someone some food or a ride or her last couple dollars. It didn’t matter she always wanted to help others. She was a mother to all who knew her and great example of our Savior Jesus Christ always wanting to serve others. She would always say “You never know if that person is really Jesus in disguise testing us to see if we’re helping others like we should.”
Nancy is survived by her daughters Misty (Matthew) Korth, Julie (Joe) Dennison, and Sherice Mattingly. Her sister Ruby (Dennis) Rose, brothers Brent (Evette) Bates, and Larry Virginia. Her grandkids, Cory Greene, Sierra (Devin) Hawker, Karlee Mead, Gage Mead, Mitchell Mattingly, Amanda (Kimball) Travis, Katarina (Curtis) Evans. As well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Mattingly, her son Joe Mattingly, her sister Alicia Bates and her nephews Austin and JJ Bates. As well as her Mother Betty McDaniel and father Lawrence Virginia.
Momma, you have no idea how much I miss you!! You were such a great example to me not just as a woman but as a mother, a daughter, a wife, and a friend, as well as a faithful servant of God. I love you so much. I know the Lord is so proud of you for all of the compassion and service you’ve done to help others. I’m sure he said welcome home my daughter you have done well. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Till we meet again…
