Nancy Yoriko Takagi, age 93, passed away while surrounded by her loving family in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 14, 2023.
Nancy was born on June 25, 1929 in San Jose, California to her parents Shiroku Hachisuka and Toma Uyeno Hachisuka. During World War II, Nancy and her family were relocated to Heart Mountain Japanese Internment Camp in Wyoming. After their release, the family migrated southwest to Brigham City, Utah where she graduated from Box Elder High School. Nancy married the love of her life, Tami Takagi, and eventually settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they raised their six children.
Nancy had an incredible work ethic that could be exemplified by the success of her restaurant, New South Seas, for greater than 20 years. The family-centered atmosphere and delicious food were extremely popular within the local community and are still fondly remembered to this day. After her retirement, she loved spending time with her closest family and friends. Her favorite activities included golfing, bowling, cooking and shopping. Her innate sense of style was impeccable and reflected the most modern-day trends. Despite the many life challenges she endured, Nancy always found a way to persevere and search for the joy in life. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Nancy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Tami Takagi; sons, Kevin Takagi and Michael Takagi; daughter, Paula Kawa; father, Shiroku Hachisuka; mother, Toma Uyeno Hachisuka; sisters, Mary Mayeda and Geraldine Tanaka; companion, Tado Tanabe. She is survived by her son, Gary Takagi (Janice Takagi) daughters, Marci Rosenlof (Richard Rosenlof-deceased) and Teresa Takagi (David Silveira); grandchildren, Curtis Takagi (Xu Zhang), Erica Takagi (Daney Nelson), Stephanie Johnston (Ryan Johnston), Jamee Lefler (Chad Lefler), Rich Rosenlof, Russ Rosenlof (Xiaodan Dai), Chris Silveira; special friend, Nobe Aoki, numerous great-grandchildren and friends.
The family will hold private funeral services.
