Nancy Zelda Powell Dalton
1938 – 2022
Our beloved mother Nancy passed away on October 7, 2022, in Taylorsville, Utah at the age of 84. She was born on June 28, 1938, to Ralph C. Powell and Zelda Larsen. She married her sweetheart James M. Dalton on February 1, 1959.
Our mother was amazing. She was such a hard worker and yet so dedicated to family. Many of our friends called her mom too, as she always made sure there was plenty of food and that no one was left out in the cold. She had such a big heart that she considered all who entered our home to be her kids.
Mom liked sewing, putting together puzzles, listening to books on tape, Kenny Rogers, and watching the Golden Girls. She loved animals of all kinds. She grew up on a farm raising all sorts of animals and loved to help with the vegetable garden.
She often spoke of her many adventures riding her horse, boots, or going into town with dad sitting on the truck, watching him work at the gravel pit. Mom loved everything outdoors. She was an avid fisherwoman, loved camping, hiking, boating, and horse back riding. Mom had a license in cosmetology, an associates degree as an electrician, and was working towards her master’s degree.
She had many careers over the years as a young widow but finished out her last fifteen plus years at Walmart until age 79. When her body and mind would no longer cooperate as she began a courageous battle with dementia after having a hip replacement surgery. She finally decided to slow down a bit. We are sure however, that her friends and family at Legacy House of Taylorsville and her hospice team with Elevation would say “She was the life of the party!” That was our mom.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Ralph C. Powell and Zelda Larsen Powell, her husband, James, her siblings Leo Dale, Wally, Verla, and Ronnie. As well as Nixie’s father Mathew DeMille.
She is survived by her son James C. Dalton, daughters: Holly A. Anderson (Paul F. Anderson III, prior marriage to Matthew F. Bryant), Melanie N. Smith (Edward Smith), Kira N. Darling (Jerry D. Darling), granddaughter Daphney A. Bryant, Nixie E. Dalton, and Melina E. Smith, grandsons: Paul F. Anderson IV, and Nicholas C. Anderson, Dalton M. Smith, and Mason D. Darling. Brother-in-law Robert W. Timmerman Sr. and sister-in-law Afton Brown, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
