Niels Allan Hedberg

Niels Allan Hedberg, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, at the age of 84, following a brief but courageous battle with brain cancer.

Allan was born on August 5, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to parents Niels Gustav and Elizabeth Ahleen Hedberg. Allan attended two years of high school in Sweden while his family served a full-time mission. He later graduated from Granite High School and went on to earn his Bachelor Degree from the University of Utah.

Allan served a full-time mission in Sweden from 1960 to 1962, an experience that deepened his connection to his Swedish heritage. He also served in the Utah National Guard for six years and embarked on a career in public service. He tirelessly worked to uplift and support others, including juveniles and victims of crime.

He was married and later divorced to Mary Elaine Naylor, Pearl Agnes Mum, and Carolyn Wutzernaim. On July 9, 1992, Allan married the love of his life, Janice Lynn Rice. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Bountiful temple. Allan was a devoted father to his daughter, Amy Hedberg Brown, and embraced Jan's children as his own.

Allan’s kindness and quick wit brought joy to all who knew him. He had a knack for delivering dad jokes that never failed to elicit laughter and eye rolls. Allan’s love for Sweden and his Swedish roots was evident in his conversations and frequent visits to the country, each journey a celebration of his heritage.

Allan was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Savior and served Him diligently in many roles and callings. He cherished every moment spent with family, never missing an opportunity to support them in their endeavors.

Allan Hedberg is survived by his devoted wife Jan of 32 years, his cherished daughter Amy (Seth), five stepchildren – Paul Barnson, Laura Brown (Chris), Scott Klimt (Jamie) Frederick Klimt, and Sharla Clark (Garrett) - and sixteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arleen Hedberg Beckstrom.
