Nina Carroll Bergman Smith

November 27, 1935 — June 19, 2025

Bountiful

Nina Carroll Bergman Smith passed away June 19, 2025. She was born on November 27, 1935, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Carl Erick Albin Bergman and Marjory Eliza Brown Bergman.

Carroll was a very intelligent woman with many talents and abilities. She LOVED music! She was an amazing pianist, and she sang in many choirs over the years. She sang with the Sacre Dulce choir, and that is where she met her eternal sweetheart.

She was sealed to Clyde Gordon Smith on October 17, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their sealing was performed by then Elder Spencer W. Kimball. She and Clyde made their home in Holladay, Utah, and had seven children together.

In 1981, Clyde was taken too soon from her, and she was left alone to raise her family. She was a fantastic mother and loved her children with all her heart. She was the most optimistic person, always seeing the good in everyone. She was a friend to all and had many “adopted” children who still call her their second Mom.

Carroll was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life and loved the Gospel with all her heart! She served in many callings over the years, but conducting choirs was her most cherished. She served in the Bountiful Temple for many years. She was always serving!

Carroll was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for eight years and was able to travel with them to 26 different countries during her time in the choir. She was also the Script Supervisor for “Music and the Spoken Word” for many years. She worked in the Temple Square Concert Series within the Missionary Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After she retired from the choir and from her job in the Missionary Department, she married Daniel A. Wolstenholme Jr. They were together for almost 23 years before his passing in 2023. They served a mission to the Los Angeles Temple Visitors Center.

Carroll’s hobbies included watching Jazz and Dodger games and many of her kids and grandkids' sports or other performances, bowling (real and Wii), and softball. She was a master at any word game! She won many fastest typing competitions, over 140 wpm on an old typewriter! She loomed over 3000 newborn hats for the Humanitarian Center.

Carroll is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Scott (Voni) Smith, Lauri (David) Glauser, Marci (Cleon) Butterfield, Mark (Terri) Smith, Cari (Russ) Newbold, Sydni (Robert) Cline, and Staci (Justin) Metcalfe, 38 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her sweetheart Clyde, her parents, her brother George, a daughter-in-law Diane, and several dogs which held a special place in her heart.

Special thanks to Barton Creek Senior Living, where she wore out the carpet with her 6,000 steps a day, and held the title of “Wii-bowling Champion”. Also to Aspire Hospice for their loving and tender care of our mother.
