Noreen A. Mason

March 21, 1930 — November 21, 2013

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Marva Noreen Averett Mason, age 83, passed away November 21, 2013 in Sandy, Utah surrounded by her loving husband and family. Noreen was born March 21, 1930 in Springville, Utah, to Elmo and Marva Iris Averett. She married Gayland LaMar Mason on December 24, 1946.

Noreen was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Relief Society president, Young Women's president and various other church callings. Her favorite calling was serving in the Jordan River Temple as an ordinance worker with her husband.

Noreen devoted her life to service to her family, friends and neighbors. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed every moment she spent with them. She was an inspiration to all. Her desire to serve others led to her joining the South Salt Lake Lion's Club where she was a member for 28 years.

Noreen loved to travel and began working as a travel agent at Beehive Travel for many years until she opened her own travel agency, Windjammer Travel. She was the consummate tour guide, always trying her best to ensure her clients had the trips they always dreamed of.

Noreen is survived by her husband, Gayland; daughters: Vickie (Steven) Gatherum, Kristine (Craig) Brown, Sheila (Steven) Wall, and Brenda Howard Mason; 22 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Noreen is also survived by her sister Betty Jensen and brother Robert (Patsy) Averett. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister LaRae Ogden, son Randall Lamar Mason, son Russell Mason and daughter Gayleen Williams.

The family would like to thank all those who cared for our sweet mother at the Alta View ICU and Landmark Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2013, at 12:00 noon at the Cottonwood Creek Union Fifth Chapel, 7784 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
