Our cute little bright-eyed mother, Norma Badham Swenson, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 28th in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on September 29th, 1932, to Paul and Pauline Johnson Badham in Payson, Utah.
She was educated in Payson schools, graduating from Payson High School in 1950. In 1952, she married Ronald Swenson (a fellow Icelander), the love of her life. They were married Sept. 23, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Ron and Norma raised five children. During this time, Norma went back to school at the University of Utah, graduating Cum Laude in Early Childhood Education. She went on to teach kindergarten and first grade for 21 years. She was loved by her students, and she loved them back.
She had a keen intellect, loved learning, was generous as the day is long, and we always knew that we had her love and support. She was a happy, energetic, positive person, who hummed her way through life, and was always quick to forgive.
Her greatest joy in life was her family: Shelley (Jim), David and Coleta, Arni and Mindy, Stuart and Isis, and Steve. She loved cooking family dinners, reading to her grandchildren, golfing, reading, travel, and theater. She was a great friend and enjoyed lifelong friendships.
Norma was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with an enduring testimony of Jesus Christ.
After retirement, she and Ron were privileged to serve a mission in Iceland, the land of both of their great-grandmothers.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ronald; grandsons, Nathan James Swenson and James B. Robinson; her son-in-law, James A. Robinson; and her siblings, Keith, Shirley, and DelRoy.
She is survived by her 5 children, 22 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on the evening of October 12, 2026, 5:30 - 7:00 PM located at 2895 E Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84093.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at The Wellington in Salt Lake for the care they gave to our mother in her last year. Special thanks to the kind aides and dining room staff.
Thanks too to the kind and capable nurses from Inspiration Hospice, Kevy, Christina, and Heather, who took such good care of our mom.
Till we meet again!
