Our beloved husband, father, and grandpa Orvin J Russell age 80 finished his mortal journey and began his eternal life on December 18, 2022.
He was born on September 4, 1942 to Orvid and Trena Russell in Price, Utah. He married Sharon K Riley on August 31, 1960 in St. Ignace, Michigan and was sealed for all eternity on November 30, 2004 in the Jordan River Temple.
Orvin spent much of his childhood and teen years in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Granite and Granger High School and graduated in May of 1960. Following his graduation, he joined the US Air Force and completed basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. He than completed technical training at Lowry AFB in Colorado and he ended up serving for 20 years and 4 months and obtained the rank of Master Sargent.
Russ was stationed and completed his duty and assignments at the following bases. Kincheloe AFB, Michigan; HAHN AFB, Germany; Glasglow AFB, Montana; Nakhon AB, Thailand; Luke AFB, Arizona; Udorn AB, Thailand; KI Sawyer AFB, Michigan; Osan AB, Korea; and retiring at Nellis AFB, Nevada. He also served missions in Minnesota, Florida, Libya, Italy, Scotland, Spain, and China. He participated in the Vietnam War for 2 years while stationed in Thailand. He also participated in the freeing of the captured US ship USS Mayaguez from Vietnam after the war had ended.
Russ became active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2004 and served in the offices of Ward teacher, High Priest group teacher, secretary, and 2nd counselor.
Russ worked for First Security Bank/Wells Fargo Bank for 23 ½ years as a security guard and mail room clerk. He also worked part time as a correctional officer for the federal halfway house, janitorial jobs and other security work.
Russ and his wife Sharon lived in West Jordan, Utah for 24 years while completing his civilian jobs. After his retirement they traveled for several years before moving to East Carbon, Utah to settle down in the retirement years. They resided there for 12 years until the passing of his wife Sharon Russell on June 18, 2018. After Sharon’s death Russ moved in with his daughter Cindy McDonald and her family in Stockton, Utah where he lived and passed away.
Russ is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Russell, parents Orvid and Trena Russell, brother Charles Russell, brother Terry Russell, brother-in-law Duane Bowles and brother-in-law Michael Veenendaal. He is survived by his sisters Marilyn Veenendaal, Delora Bowles, and Dorla Ann Cyphers (Brownie), children, Tracy Russell (Candice), Cindy McDonald (Dave), Pouchi Russell (LaDonna), Randy Russell (Michelle), Mary Jorgensen (Jason), Charlie Russell (Pyper), and many grandkids and great grandkids.
As per Russ’s request funeral services will be held on December 30, 2022 at 11 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary located at 6500 South Redwood Road West Jordan, Utah. The family will receive family and friends 1 hour prior to the service. Orvin will be interred in Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery following his funeral.Service Information
