Patricia Elizabeth Petrich Pilcher Layton

Aug 25, 1932 — Jun 16, 2026

Washington Terrace, Utah

Patricia Elizabeth Layton, lovingly known as "Grandma Pat," passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at Sunridge Assisted Living in Layton, Utah, at the age of 93.

Patricia was born on August 25, 1932, in Ogden, Utah, to Ivan John Petrich and Eliza Gilberta Brown. She spent her childhood in the historic Brown Mansion and learned the value of hard work at an early age while helping with the family's Brown's Orchard in Ogden. These experiences helped shape the strong work ethic, resilience, and compassion that would define her throughout her life.

Patricia graduated from Ogden High School in 1951 and later completed her nursing education at the Thomas Dee School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1954. She devoted more than 40 years of service then went on to volunteer until 2024 to the patients and staff of McKay-Dee Hospital, where she cared for countless individuals with kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern.

In 1953, Patricia married Loyal Gerald Layton. Together they welcomed six beautiful children and built many cherished memories. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, Patricia remained devoted to her family throughout her life.

To know Pat was to be loved by her. She possessed a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. Some of their most treasured memories were made around her dinner table, where she lovingly prepared family favorites such as roast beef dinner, chicken tacos, corned beef and cabbage, shish kabobs, spaghetti, and, of course, chocolate cake or Silver Mint Bars. We suspect she may have had a secret crush on the Schwann man.

Pat also had a well-known sweet tooth and could rarely resist bite-sized Snickers, Lemonheads, root beer, Creamies (any ice cream for that matter), or a stick of gum. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and delighted in sharing them with those she loved.

A gifted musician, Pat was an accomplished pianist and organist and proudly participated in the Lowrey Organ Club. Music remained one of her lifelong passions. She also loved theater and musicals, enjoying both performances and participation in community productions. Through the Terrace Plaza Playhouse, she performed in productions including A Christmas Carol, Red’s Broadway Review as Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, and Hello, Dolly!, creating friendships and memories that she cherished.

Pat was very patriotic and loved her country. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP), joining the organization in 1961 and faithfully participating in its activities for many years. One of her proudest accomplishments came in July 2022, when she was crowned as DUP Royalty for the Ogden Pioneer Days parade, an honor she treasured and celebrated with family and friends.

Pat was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. Her faith was reflected not only in her beliefs but also in her willingness to serve others. She generously shared her musical talents by playing the piano and organ for church services and for the funerals of family members, friends, and loved ones. Through her music, she brought comfort, peace, and reverence to countless individuals during both joyful and difficult moments. Her quiet acts of service and unwavering devotion were a lasting testament to the faith she cherished.

Above all else, Pat loved being with people. Whether it was a spontaneous trip to the movies, a lunch outing, dinner with family, or simply spending time visiting with those she cared about, she found happiness in togetherness. Her warmth, laughter, generosity, and genuine love for others left an impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

Patricia's legacy is one of faith, service, music, patriotism, family, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her example and the countless memories she created throughout her long and beautiful life.

Pat is survived by her sons, Joe (Robyn) Layton of Layton, Utah, Robin (Gaylene) Layton of Layton, Utah, and Roger Layton of Ogden, Utah; her daughter, BethAnne (Daniel Peterson) Layton of Layton, Utah; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan John Petrich and Eliza Gilberta Brown and her stepfather Joseph Richard Pilcher; her brothers, Tom Petrich, Ivan Petrich, and Mark Petrich; and her sons, Kevin Layton and Wayne Layton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 5th Ward Chapel, 350 West 5100 South, Washington Terrace, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church and again on Tuesday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow at the Ogden City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and nursing staff at Sunridge Assisted Living of Layton and Atlas Home Health and Hospice. Their love, kindness, and devoted care brought comfort and joy to Pat during her final years. She always made sure they knew how much she loved and appreciated them, and her family will forever be grateful for the remarkable care they provided.

Though she will be deeply missed, Patricia's love, laughter, and enduring example will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
