Patrick “Patch” Earl Roylance, the third son of Thomas E. and Diane C. Roylance, left this world unexpectedly and far too quickly on Tuesday night, June 9, 2026, succumbing to the effects of a week-long battle with pneumonia. He’s now reunited with his sweet wife and big brother.
Patrick was born on a Monday afternoon, August 17, 1987 at Utah Valley Hospital. He was a happy kid and grew up a happy young man. As a 3-year-old, his friends couldn’t pronounce his name so they called him Patch. The nickname stuck the rest of his life.
One of the greatest and most joy-filled events of Patch’s life took place on August, 23rd, 2013. Surrounded by family and friends, he married the love of his life, Caitlin Elizabeth Nicholson. Their love was tangible to anyone who was around them. They wanted children but settled for numerous cats, dogs, and fish.
Patch was a skilled welder and loved his job. However, he developed seizures and had to leave the industry he loved. For the past several years he was a delivery driver for Burt Brother’s Tires. He would drive from Nephi to Logan and many stops in between. He was a good driver and in all the years he drove for Burt, he was never involved in an accident and ironically received only one ticket the week he fell ill with pneumonia.
He struggled with a life-long bi-polar disorder, but throughout his struggles mentally, he always worked to be positive, a trait that endeared him with his young nieces and nephews. He loved to snowboard, especially when he could be with is brothers and sisters. When his nieces and nephews got older, Patch would very patiently help them learn to snowboard or play guitar. They loved their Uncle Patch.
Patch’s life took a difficult turn on September 12, 2024 when the love of his life, his sweet wife, Caitlin, passed away in her sleep. He loved her so very much and found life difficult without her. He continued working and would visit his parents occasionally, but his zest for life was gone. As difficult as it is to lose him, his family is somewhat comforted knowing that he and Caitlin are reunited.
Patch was preceded in death by his big brother, Jordan, and his sweet wife, Caitlin. He is survived by his parents Thom and Diane Roylance, Lindon, UT; his in-laws Kay and Craig Yeaman, his two brothers, Christopher (Michelle) Roylance, Tucson, AZ and Sean (Kaitlyn) Roylance, St. Clair Shores, MI; one sister Anna (Robert) Nance, Argyle, TX, and 12 nieces and nephews; uncles, Bron (Naomi) Roylance, Sundance, UT, Jim Crowther, Boise, ID, Randy (Debbi) Crowther, Hyde Park, UT; and aunts, Rosanne (Dwight) Lovato, Boulder, CO, Carol Ann (Chris) Rasmussen, Farmington, UT. He was also blessed with additional family members including, his grandmother, Nancy Roylance, American Fork, UT, Clark Newell, American Fork, UT, Dara (Paul) Poulsen, Heber, UT, Kent (Robyn) Newell, Eagle River, AK, and Ashlee (KC) Ushijima, Eagle Mountain, UT, along with 24 cousins.
A graveside service will be held, Friday, July 17, 2026 at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. The service will begin at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest with his wife, Caitlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Humane Society of Utah in Patch’s behalf. The family expresses their gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Holy Cross Hospital – Davis for their thoughtfulness and the care they provided throughout Patch’s stay. They are especially grateful for the clear explanations, care, and kindness of his doctor, Dr. AbuQare. They also wish to acknowledge and thank Premier Funeral Services and Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery for their kind and gentle professionalism in assisting the family at this difficult time.
