Paul Howard Heath

February 19, 1918 — May 10, 2013

Paul Howard Heath, who considered himself to be the most fortunate man in the world, passed away Friday, 10 May 2013. He was born 19 February 1918 in Sugar City, ID to Frederick John Heath and Emma Caroline Cahoon. His sweetheart, Lucille, predeceased him in September 2005. Paul passed on their 73rd wedding anniversary and his children are happy that their parents were reunited on their special day.

Paul proudly served in the Navy during World War II as a Photographer's Mate. He was stationed in Quonset Point, R.I., Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Guam. Upon return from the War, Paul worked in blueprinting at various companies and retired as an office manager after many years of service. Paul became active in the Boy Scouts of America and was an avid Scouter for many years; he was a Silver Beaver recipient in February 1985; he was later appointed to be the Chairman of the Silver Beaver Selection Committee and served in that capacity for over 15 years.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Paul served in many callings including Home Teacher, High Councilor and Bishop. In March of 1985 Paul and Lucille were called to serve a mission in the New Zealand Temple. Upon return to Salt Lake City, they continued their service as temple workers in the Salt Lake Temple for many years.

Family was the most important thing to Paul. He unconditionally loved his children and grand children and never criticized or judged their choices in life. He made everyone feel as if they were his favorite. Paul treated all with kindness and compassion. And OH BOY! Did he have a GREAT sense of humor and a QUICK WIT.

Paul is survived by his son Jim (Alice), daughters Marian (Larry), Susan, Sally (G.R.) and Nancy. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Paul and his family are very appreciative of the loving care provided by Doctors Sarah Welles, Brett Boyle and Thomas Edwards; the staff at Spring Creek Health Center and the Wentworth at Millcreek. His family is also grateful for the care, comfort and compassion given to Paul by Linda of Visiting Angels; Nurse James of Guardian Home Health Care and Amy, Julie and Lisa of Solstice Hospice. The family would like to thank Bryant and Pat Furness who took dinner or made sure that Paul had dinner every Tuesday night for nearly two years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00am at the Murray South Stake Center, 5735 South Fashion Blvd. Friends and family can visit Monday evening at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, from 6:00 to 8:00pm and at the church Tuesday morning 9:30 to 10:30am prior to the service.
