R. Glenn Harris

October 10, 1920 — February 9, 2011

Raymond Glenn Harris passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on February 9, 2011. He was born on October 10, 1920, a son of Sterling Patten and Anne Lloyd Harris, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest and longest surviving of their eight children. He graduated from East High School in 1938.

On December 26, 1941, he married the love of his life, Virginia Ostler. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, where he learned his life-trade as an engine mechanic; he was stationed in the South Pacific, including Australia, Guam and Saipan. After his return he owned and operated Harris Auto Service for fourteen years. He later worked for PBI Trucking and Wasatch Electric, from which he retired. Whatever task he undertook he performed with determination and dedication.

Glenn was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities, including bishop, counselor, high councilor, young men's president, service missionary at the Church Employment Office, temple worker, and financial ward clerk. He, with Virginia, also completed a leadership mission with the Granite Park Stake.

He was a talented craftsman, and loved sports, both watching and participating. He sang in many choirs and in a barbershop quartet. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, camping and doing things with his family.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, Katharine Robinson, Joanne (Jared) Allred, Raymond (Ingrid) Harris, Elizabeth Harris, and Rosemary (Tracy) Tripp; along with eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and many wonderful lifelong friends.

We will miss his great bear hugs, his devoted love, and his wonderful sense of humor. Glenn has requested that memorial donations be made to 'eyeglasses for umpires and referees.org.'

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at 12 noon at the Canyon Rim 1st Ward, 3100 East 3000 South. Friends and family can visit Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Monday morning from 10:30am to 11:30am prior to the service. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery. Messages and tributes to Glenn's family can be posted at: www.holbrookmortuary.com
