November 11, 1935 — May 3, 2011

(Dee)

Deverl returned to his Heavenly Father on May 3, 2011 in Salt Lake City Utah due to complications from cancer. We celebrate his life... one of service, love, and excitement. Deverl was born on January 11, 1935 in Preston, Idaho to Roscoe and Alavon Herzog and was raised by his mother Alavon and step father Archie Wright. Deverl graduated from Preston High School in 1953. In addition to being an outstanding friend and a great example, he excelled in athletics. He received all-state honors in three sports, basketball (center), football (defensive end), and track. Following high school 'Dee' played football at Utah State University for one year then left to serve in the Spanish American Mission (1955-1958) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Following his mission, he completed a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. On June 29 1962, he married the love of his life and sweetheart LaRee Pearl Anderson in the Manti Temple. They have enjoyed nearly 49 years of tenderness and love. They served a mission to Independence Missouri visitor's center and to the Inner City Mission (Ridgeland Acres Ward). He also served with his wife as Guest Service Missionary for five years at the LDS Conference Center. Deverl taught in the Church Education System (CES) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 33 years. He had a natural love of the scriptures and a talent for helping young people. He served in many church callings, his two favorite were Bishop of the Canyon Rim 5th Single's Ward, and adoptive grandfather (aka nursery leader) in the Canyon Rim 3rd Ward. He also served in two other bishoprics (Whittier California, and in the Canyon Rim 3rd Ward). Deverl was a Christ-like example in all of his actions and choices and will be missed by all especially his eight beautiful grandchildren. He is survived by his wife LaRee children: Brad (Ginger), Craig (Jenni), Kim (David) Thomas and Dallen,; sisters: Gloria Lowe, Rowana Griffith, Deonne (Howard) Almond, and Kathy (Kent)Moser; grandchildren: Benjamin, Nathan, Jacob, Hannah, Katie, Daniel, Poppy, and Ethan Funeral Services will be held on Saturday May 7, 2011 11:00am at the Canyon Rim Stake Center, 3051 South 2900 East.
