Ramona Vance

June 4, 1928 — August 27, 2024

West Valley City

"Once, there was a little girl from Wyoming. We say ‘once’ because there’s only one Ramona. Born on June 4th, 1928, she was a feisty one. But it all started when her dad, a 17-year-old boy named Bill Legarra, left Spain, and crossed the ocean by himself. He soon found himself a sweetheart named Bertha, and they were married in 1927 in Frontier, Wyoming. As Ramona grew up, she loved football, rodeo, water skiing, and dancing. She married George Hunter and raised their two boys Bill and Geordi right. They all worked hard and sacrificed a lot. For 77 years she was an excellent typist and continued to work transcribing for attorneys until just a few months before she passed away. Her spelling and grammar were impeccable. She was so good at it, she was the secretary to Ed Herschler who later became Governor of Wyoming, and she even helped run the radio station, KMER. To say she loved reading would be an understatement. She would read a nine-hundred-page book in a weekend. (unless the book wasn’t that good; then she’d finish it on Monday) She loved a good Rib-eye steak, making the greatest Thanksgiving dinners in history with her mom Bertha, and if it were a hot day…she just loved a really cold beer.

She moved to Salt Lake City, and in 1976, and married Robert Carl Vance Jr. They were married for forty-eight years. Her neighbors admired her faithfulness, as she went for a walk around her block every day, for 46 years.

She loved her boys Bill and Geordi with all her heart and was beyond proud of each of her grandkids. She loved talking about Becki the Barrel Racer, Doug, David, Jake, and Aric. Becki of course was her favorite granddaughter; a title she wears proudly to this day.

She went back home to heaven…Kemmerer, same thing, on August 27, 2024. She was 96 years young and still feisty.

Born, Ramona Marie on June 4, 1928, to William and Bertha Legarra, in Frontier, Wyoming. Passed away, August 27, 2024. She married George Hunter in 1948, and later divorced. Married Robert Carl Vance Jr. on August 22, 1976.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Hunter, and her brothers Sonny, Bob, and Chub Legarra.

She is survived by her husband Carl, her sons Bill (Mary) and Geordi (Deanne) Hunter, grandchildren, Doug (Diana) David (Stephanie) Jake (Aimee) Aric Hunter and Becki (Jim) Peterson, as well as 8 Great Grandchildren.

She is also survived by her Step kids and grandkids: Kathy (Clarence), Heather and Mary Fogel. David (Denise) Vance, Mike (Laurel) CJ (Irene) Holly (Quinn) Rachel (Carter) and Jake Vance. Eric (Nadia) Samuel, and Jared Vance.
