Ray Evan Henderson, our cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and treasured friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on May 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Winton, Wyoming, Ray later made his home in Woods Cross, Utah, where he lived a full and meaningful life, finding joy in the simple pleasures and being in the company of his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters Julie (Russel), Tonya (Tim), Wendy (Benny), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom lovingly knew him as “Pop.” Ray is now reunited with his beloved mother, Sarah; father, James; brothers Jimmy, Richard, and Leonard; and sister Jean, as well as his wife Sandra, former wives Marilyn and Colleen, his sons Randy and Michael, and his daughter Brenda.
At the young age of 17, Ray proudly joined the U.S. Army, beginning a lifetime defined by dedication, hard work, and quiet strength. After his service, he returned home and began his working life at a tire company before starting a long and loyal career with the power company at age 46. He remained with the company until retiring at 82—proud of his many years of hard work and of reaching the point where he could finally hang up his hat at such an age.
Ray loved fishing, watching Jazz games, and taking trips to Wendover where he would always tap the sides of the slot machines for good luck—a ritual that rarely let him down, he had a way of making anything special. He took great pride in his home and especially his yard, which earned him the city’s Beautification Award in 2009. The holidays were his favorite time of year, when he made his legendary fudge, caramel, and peanut brittle—heartfelt gifts that he loved sharing with his family, friends, and neighbors. Pop also loved bingo nights and cherished his “cookie time” and found such joy in sharing cookies with his grandchildren from his beloved cookie jar. Those small, sweet traditions have become treasured memories that will live on in each of us.
Ray was deeply loved and will be greatly missed; and his kindness, warmth, and steadfast love for his family has left a lasting imprint on our hearts forever. Although we mourn the loss of his physical presence, we find great peace knowing that his spirit lives on, wrapped in the memories we carry, we are comforted by the knowledge that he continues to watch over us from the presence of God.
And in his own words, with a smile: “And that’s it!”.
We hope to shout that we’ll see you on the other side pop!
A graveside service for Ray will be on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Memorial Lakeview Mortuary & Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful.
