Our hearts are broken as we share that Raymond Eugene Jentzsch Jr. passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2026, at the age of 66. Though taken from us far too soon, his life was filled with love, laughter, adventures he had lasting love and friendship that will continue to inspire those left behind. Ray was the second oldest of five children born on April 28, 1960, to Raymond Eugene Jentzsch and Trudy Weidow Jentzsch. Ray grew up in Sandy, Utah and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1978.
Ray possessed many talents and skills throughout his life, and because of his hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship, he developed lasting friendships throughout the construction and business communities. He spent the last thirty-seven years of his career at Cameron Construction as a Super Intendent where he worked and oversaw many important projects. Ray took pride in his work and especially enjoyed showing family and friends the buildings and projects he worked on, sharing stories of the challenges and accomplishments. His legacy can be seen throughout Utah and beyond.
Ray had one son and namesake Joshua (Josh) Eugene Jentzsch. Josh’s favorite memory was when he was nine, Ray had just finished a job in California, Josh was able to meet him to see the Golden Gate Bridge, spend time on the beach, enjoy the ocean, and find star fish. Josh always held a special place in Ray’s heart, and he loved him deeply. Over the years, Ray also helped raise and care for other children who became an important part of his life. He also treasured the time he spent with his nieces and nephews. Known affectionately as “Cap’n Ray,” he loved and enjoyed taking the kids out on his boat, fishing, horseback riding, and hunting.
Ray found his true and once-in-a-lifetime love, Traci in 2013. We could not be more thrilled to celebrate with them when they made it official with a magical wedding on June 25, 2022. Together, they built a life filled with happiness, companionship, and dreams for the future. Traci had a way of encouraging Ray to embrace life, explore new places, and try things that no one else could have convinced him to do, we laughed and secretly questioned some of it until we saw the pictures to prove it.
They enjoyed watching football together, and Ray took great joy in spoiling Traci with everything Green Bay (her team). Whether it was Packers gear, memorabilia, or unforgettable game-day experiences, seeing her excitement brought him so much joy and happiness.
Ray and Traci created countless cherished memories and looked forward to many more adventures, as well as the well-deserved retirement that was just ahead. Though their time together was far too short, the love they shared was profound and brought immeasurable joy and love to both of their lives.
Ray was a good man—loyal, funny, stubborn, generous, protective, and passionate. While he was often seen as a tough cowboy, those who knew him best knew he had a soft heart and cared deeply for the people he loved. Ray had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a joke, playful tease, or a more elaborate and carefully planned B-pageant. If Ray was giving you a hard time, you knew you were loved.
In his younger years, Ray enjoyed scuba diving and became an instructor at Scuba Utah. Ray later developed a love for cooking and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. His specialty was grilling and smoking meat and his prime rib and freshly caught fish quickly became some of the favorites. Ray also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and horseback riding, and he always looked forward to hunting trips with family and friends. Some of his most treasured memories were made in the mountains, around the campfire, and on the many adventures he shared with those closest to him. The stories, laughter, and friendships forged during those times will be remembered for years to come.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Traci and family; his son, Josh; his siblings, Tammy (Gary) Clark, Terrie (Cory) Workman, Robert (Stacie) Jentzsch, and Randy (Wendy) Jentzsch; as well as his grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Trudy. We find comfort in knowing he was welcomed home by his faithful companion and riding partner, Chip, who held a special place in his heart.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Murray Mortuary, located at 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah 84121.
