Remembering “Sweet Rebecca”

Rebecca Rae Anderson Haertel, affectionately known as “Sweet Rebecca,” was born on January 11, 1973, in Murray, Utah, to Derwin “Andy” Anderson and Launi Schneider Anderson. She passed away on January 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering love.

Childhood and Lifelong Friendships

Growing up in Murray, Utah, Becky formed lifelong bonds that would shape her journey. Her dearest friend, Jamee “DeGooyer” Pia, became her companion from the tender age of two. Living just eleven houses apart, Becky and Jamee shared countless adventures, running back and forth between their homes. Their friendship endured through elementary, junior high, and high school. Jamee stood by Becky’s side as her maid of honor. Becky’s childhood was further enriched by her next-door neighbor, Cody Cummings, whose father, Bruce, introduced them both to skiing and tennis. Becky, graceful and athletic, was known as a ballerina on skis. In jr. high and high school Becky played softball on a competition softball team. Becky would travel across the United States to play in tournaments. Becky was known for her great arm and ability to catch hard hit balls.

Education and Sorority Life

Becky graduated from Murray High School in 1991. She continued her education at Utah State University, where she became a proud member of the Chi Omega Sorority, further expanding her circle of cherished friendships and memories.

Professional Life

Becky’s career began at Northwest Mortgage, later known as Wells Fargo Mortgage. She subsequently joined PHC Funding Group, working alongside friends Mark and Matt Malouf. Her strong work ethic, problem-solving abilities, and dedication left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the organization.

Marriage and Family

On June 20, 1998, Becky married Matt Haertel in the beautiful First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City. Their wedding was a fairy tale come to life, with Becky as the beautiful, radiant bride. Together, Becky and Matt were blessed with three sons: Sebastien, Mason, and Kaiser. The family made their home in Cottonwood Heights in 1997, where the boys became an integral part of the local football community.

Devoted Mother and Friend

Becky was a devoted and loving mother, deeply cherished by her sons. Becky and Kaiser shared a love for the Christian faith. Becky and Kaiser attended “The Well” Christian church on Sundays together. She sparked a love in Kaiser for reading and studying the bible. Becky’s love for the boys and their friends created a love for Becky to the point where she was considered a second mother by many of their friends, providing meals, entertainment, and transportation whenever needed. Becky’s nurturing spirit extended to all, ensuring the boys and their friends were always cared for, well-fed, and happy.
