Obituary

Rebekah “Becky” Dawn Cowdell Rosenkrantz, age 84, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in Millcreek, Utah. Born July 10, 1941, in Sandy, Utah, to Hazel and Ernest Cowdell (deceased), Becky was a woman of remarkable strength, boundless generosity, and an unwavering devotion to family. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1959 and spent her life building a legacy rooted in love, laughter, and being a wicked good card player.

Family was the great north star of Becky’s life. She made it her personal mission to stay connected with siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews near and far, always knowing what was happening in everyone’s lives. Her son Todd was the light of her world, and she was voraciously proud of her three grandchildren, Cassandra, Julia, and Nikolas. In her retired years, Becky made a point of picking her grandchildren up from school, using those precious afternoon hours to pass on the things she cherished most: how to play cards, how to play classic board games, and how to recite the family tree — because knowing where you come from, she believed, was among life’s most important lessons.

Becky herself came from hearty stock and was strong in both body and conviction. She was a powerhouse in a tiny body and one of the most generous people around — the kind of woman who would give you her last dime without hesitation. She loved spending time with Todd and his family, often heading over for a home-cooked meal. It may have taken her extra time to finish her plate, but that was only because she savored every bite.

Professionally, Becky built an impressive career in the securities industry, working for respected firms including Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley. She worked her way up through the ranks to office manager, earning deep respect from colleagues and clients alike.

For a time, she and Carl traded the mountains for the ocean when they moved to Huntington Beach, California, during Todd’s school years. Becky returned to Utah in the early 1980s and never left again. Utah was home, and home was where her people were.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carl. She is survived by her son Todd (Andrea); grandchildren Cassandra, Julia, and Nikolas; sisters Kathy Mower and JoAnne Jackman; and brother Randy Cowdell (Sue).

Her greatest gift to those who knew her was exactly this: she made you feel like family. Her warmth, her stories, her unwavering devotion — these are the things that will endure. She is deeply missed and will never be forgotten.
