Reed Douglas Davis
Reed Douglas Davis (Reedo Speedo) passed away on May 8th, 2022, at his home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah at the age of 63.
He was born on August 1st, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Douglas Jones Davis and Sally Williamson Davis.
He graduated from Skyline High School in 1976 and shortly after served an LDS mission in San Salvador, El Salvador. Reed then attended the University of Utah where he received a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He continued his education at Thunderbird International Business school in Arizona where he received his master’s degree. Reed worked at F5 Networks as an Enterprise Account Manager and received awards for being a top salesman for most of his career.
During his first German study abroad, he fell in love with the country, people, culture, cars, and driving fast on the Autobahn. He had a gift for languages and perfected speaking German and Spanish so well that the local people thought he was a native. After spending a couple of years working in Germany, Reed returned home to Utah where he reconnected with the love of his life, Nanette Green. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 29th, 1989. Reed and Nan were blessed with 3 children.
Reed had so much energy and always had to be on the go. He loved skiing, fishing, hunting, boating, motorcycles and cars. He had a passion for music. He would regularly blast the Eagles at full volume through his Klipshorn speakers. He made instant friends everywhere he went and many of these encounters developed into long-lasting friendships. Reed always had a joke to share whether you wanted to hear it or not. Racing cars at the Nürburgring in Germany was Reed’s favorite thing to do and he was happiest being in a car, driving fast.
Reed was extremely generous, thoughtful, and capable of solving any problem that came his way. He loved being around people and making them laugh. He had a gift for knowing if someone needed a phone call, lunch, or a visit. Reed’s love and thoughtfulness was all-inclusive as he befriended people around the world and in his community. His motto was, “the more the merrier.” He helped his friends and family enjoy the finer things in life and represented his dad’s saying, “The best is hardly good enough and it only costs a nickel more to go first class.” We will miss seeing him with his funny shirts, hat, sunglasses with chums, and a coke (or Spezi) in his hand. His legacy will live on for generations to come.
Reed is survived by his wife, Nanette Green Davis, his daughter, Jessica Lynn Dahn (Eric), his sons, Matthew Douglas Davis, and Alexander Reed Davis. Along with his granddaughters, Ellie Rae Dahn, Lexi Jane Dahn, his mother, Sally Davis, sister Sue Purcell (Raymond), brother Gary Davis (Carrie), mother-in-law Colleen Taylor Green, many nieces and nephews and the family dog, Millie.
He is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Jones Davis and his father-in-law, William Shields Green.
