Reed Lund Frischknecht, age 88, died at home of causes incident to age January 15, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born June 2, 1924 in Logan, Utah to Carl Oliver and Geniel (Lund) Frischknecht. He served in World War II as a 2nd Lt and platoon leader of the 601st Tank Destroyer Corps in the U.S. Army. He received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University and his master's degree and PhD from the University of Utah. He was appointed instructor in economics as a graduate student at the University of Utah. He began his public service in Washington, D.C. during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower by serving as a legislative assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Ezra Taft Benson. He then accepted a position as legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Arthur V. Watkins (R-Utah). During his public service, he was also a visiting assistant professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University.
He returned to Utah to teach at Weber College. The College conferred upon him the rank of associate professor of economics. He also served there as acting chairman, College of Business and Economics, for two years. He continued his teaching career at the University of Utah where he taught undergraduate and graduate students for many years. He was appointed as an assistant professor, associate professor, full professor and retired as professor emeritus.
In 1965, he was appointed to serve as a member of the Utah Commission on the Organization of the Executive Branch of State Government. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the NAACP and as President of the Salt Lake City Family Counseling Center.
Reed was a high priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Reed and Cleone loved to spend their summers at their cabin on Henry's Lake in Idaho where their grandchildren have fond memories of being with them.
His crowning achievement in life was to marry Cleone Rich on August 26, 1946 in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti, Utah Temple in January of 1998. Cleone is revered by her posterity for her remarkable love for, devotion to and tender care of her husband.
Survivors include his wife, Cleone; daughter, Ann (Lynn) Summerhays of Farmington, Utah and son, David Reed (Debbie) Frischknecht of Spokane, Washington; eleven grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00am at the East Millcreek 9th Ward, 3750 South Hillside Lane (2524 East), Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family can visit Friday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30am prior to the service.
