Our loving mother and friend Reiko Takeuchi Norris returned peacefully and gently to God on January 2, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born January 28, 1929 in Toyama City, Japan. Married Chalmers Gail Norris three times in April, 1953: first in Japan, again by a ship's captain on their voyage to America, and finally by my Grandfather in his church in Pennsylvania.
Reiko enjoyed a long and happy life together with her loving husband Gail. From humble beginnings in rural Pennsylvania, they built a wonderful life and family in Washington, DC (where their son, Jeff, was born); State College, PA; Olympia, WA, and finally in Salt Lake City, UT. Rei was a talented artist, a dedicated volunteer, especially at Christ United Methodist Church, and a tireless caregiver. She was quick to action and got things done. She spoke her mind, and laughed her wonderful laugh without inhibition. Most of all, she was a wonderful and loving wife and mother, and a generous and joyful soul. We will miss her greatly, love her forever, and strive every day to carry on her legacy of love for family, kindness and generosity for friends and strangers alike, and enduring faith in God.
Survived by her son Jeffery Allen, daughter-in-law Kathleen, and grandchildren Jack, Mary, and Casey, all of Washington DC.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 18, 2014 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 East 3300 South. Online tributes and memories can be posted for the family at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
