It is with profound sadness that we share the news that Renee Chilton (Newbold) Edgar passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026. She was 90 years old and was a beautiful wife, mother, mother-in-law, stepmother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was born on July 2, 1935, in Pocatello Idaho to Arthur Eldon and Mindwell (Mina) Varney Chilton. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings; her brother Jay Chilton and her sisters Maxine Parker, Rolene Crandell and Kayla Messersmith as well as her husband, Eldon Edgar.
Renee married Otis (Ottie) Newbold on June 11, 1960, and had a daughter, Kristin - she always said she went for quality not quantity. The two later divorced. She then married Eldon Lee Edgar on November 19, 1977, who already had four children, Chari (deceased), Robb, Arnold (deceased), and Angela. Together they shared many years of love, laughter, and countless adventures.
Renee grew up in American Fork and graduated from American Fork High School in 1953 and remained close to her high school friends, treasuring those relationships and the memories they made along the way. She attended BYU briefly and transferred to USU, graduating with her bachelor's degree in English and Speech in 1958. While attending USU, Renee was very active in her Sigma Kappa sorority and served as president in 1957. During those years, she was nominated for woman of the year and was also a cheerleader.
In 1958, after graduating from college, with a bit of courage and a sense of adventure, Renee moved to Las Vegas to pursue a teaching career. At the time, this vibrant and booming area, also known as the golden age, quickly became the entertainment capital. In addition to teaching, Renee and her friends attended many exciting shows with young new film and music stars such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Andy Williams, and Carol Channing, who often performed in intimate settings. These were days that Renee always remembered with great affection.
After marrying Ottie and moving to Ogden in 1960, Renee became a devoted mother, who loved and cherished being an incredible mom to her daughter, Kristin. During those years, she also taught English and Speech and had a meaningful impact on many young lives. They remember her fondly as a wonderful and fair-minded teacher as well as a great dresser. Renee believed in her students and more importantly, helped them believe in themselves.
While married to Eldon, they traveled extensively in the US and Canada and took awe inspiring cruises with her brother Jay and sister-in-law Connie to Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Transatlantic. Hawaii was Renee's favorite place, where she often visited and made warm and heartfelt memories with her brother Jay along with close family and friends.
Renee was a beloved grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with her many grandchildren as the families grew. To each of these relationships, she brought love and fun; wisdom and warmth; and joy and laughter. She will forever be cherished for her guiding and nurturing ways while her growing family brought immense light into her life.
Renee was passionate about her hobbies - she was an avid skier and tennis player. She also enjoyed long bike rides, dancing, reading, and most especially, spending time with family and friends.
